Progress Information 
This is a brief outline of the requirements to achieve this promotion. A more detailed curriculum is available at our school. 
1st Kyu Brown Belt 
 

 

 

A student must achieve a minimum of 4 tips to advance.

Must attend 15 Sparring Classes (Before 4th Tip)

 

Testing for the rank of 1st Kyu, Black Belt:

​

• DRILLS: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced Drills using Techinques learned for last 3 tips

• Kata: 1 Beginner Kata, 1 Intermediate Kata & 2 Advanced Kata (Pinan 5 & Ji i no)

• IPPONS: 1- 15 Combat Speed / 15-20 technical study (Show knowledge of Technique)

• Self Defense: Must perform 3 learned self defense techniques & Show Effective & applicable knowlege of Locking Drill

• 3 Point Kumite: Utilize all learned blocks and counters

• Sparring: Must effectively defeat all lower rank students
